The Velvet Oven
My gateway into the culinary world was baking. I assume that's why my guilty pleasure has always been baked sweets, and my doing a blog about a bakery was more of a when, not an if. And as luck would have it, there happens to be a bakery nearby that only opened a month ago that I knew I had to check out, a little place called The Velvet Oven. It was a standalone building located behind a combination Dunkin Donuts/gas station in the Blue Ash area. The parking lot was packed upon my arrival, which I took as a good sign. The front windows had little hand drawings of different pastries, and the interior had a very interesting atmosphere, with a lighted sign on the wall and plants strung around it. And of course, a massive glass case display of pastries. It actually took me awhile to decide what to get because they had so many options. Multiple types of cheesecakes, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and little cakes that were actually shaped like fruits. It was a hard decision, but ultimately, the big s'more cookies were the most tempting. I mean, who can resist a massive cookie with toasted marshmallows on top? And it's a decision I definitely won't regret. What surprised me was that they put graham cracker pieces in the cookie, something I've never seen in that kind of cookie. It also contained almonds, which I don't understand why, but I wasn't complaining. It had an extremely soft interior and was one of the richest pastries I've ever eaten. I ended having to take part of it home because I couldn't finish it. A short visit, but The Velvet Bakery is now one of my favorite places and I'm looking forward to trying their other creations! They definitely make sure their staff knows what they're doing!
